The perception of beauty

The Planet Earth is made up of different elements and one of it is the entire population of human beings. I am not sure if the creatures in the animal kingdom have their definitions of beauty and perfection. But the human population definitely has that and has placed a great deal of emphasis on it. THis obsession with beauty and perfection is like a disease that is slowly eating into the atomical structure of the human population. But hold on! There is nothing really wrong with being obsessed with beauty and perfection, is there? It simply depends on how we define it and what we are doing to achieve the definition. I envision different lanes in front of me. The different lanes represent different definitions of beauty and perfection. There are many people running on these lanes. Some of these people work within their means and ability to achieve their own definitions. Some people try harder and stretch themselves a little more than others.

I think i crossed to the wrong lane yesterday when I went for the slimming treatment. It was simply standing on a machine which vibrates your body to supposedly break up the fats in your body. Thereafter, you are wrapped with plastic wrap. And that concludes your treatment. According to the consultant, I would need about 20 treatments of that to see effects to my body. She was doing her job of selling the packages that her company has. Nevertheless, as I read in between the lines, I read her definition of beauty. My take on it is that she defines beauty as a female who looks really thin, or perhaps just right with perfect skin and without strength. And perhaps due to the environment in which she works in, her perceived methodology of achieving this perfection is through the use of technology and the investment of money.

It was a whole new thing to me. My perception of beauty lies in confidence, maturity, global perspective and good health. To me, my definition tells me that I want to be a strong person who can take on challenges as they come along. I want to be someone intelligent and wise and who knows my purpose in life. At the same time, I want to keep fit and exercise so that my body can take me through the challenges. Character and personality strength comes to me in the form of mind power. Physical strength comes to me in the form of working out at the gym to build my muscles.

As the consultant spoke to me and asked me questions of what I want to achieve in this race towards beauty and perfection, there seemed to be an instant when she and I connected and realised that we are both in different leauges.

Nevertheless, this entire incident further provoked my analysis of what beauty and perfection means to me. I am not different from many others. I want to lok pretty and nice too. And I have a weakness for beautiful things. Yet, I question my beliefs and foundation for beauty and the methodology through which I should use to achieve my goals.

I am finally proud to say that this incident which has caused me to work out my brain cells even more has affirmed my personal beliefs of beauty and perfection and the foundations on which they have been built on. I have understood myself better in this aspect of the kind of beauty and perfection I strive to achieve.

Dear Lord

I want to give thanks for this experience that i have written. I hope that the lesson and revelations that I have attained were that of your intentions. This experience has not only affirmed my personal beliefs of beauty and perfection but also helped me to look at myself and decide for myself the kind of person I want to be.

A special day for the both of us

Today is a special day. It is the day we penned our signatures to our new home. It is our first step to establishing a base which we can call our own and fill it with our elements and signatures. Although we have to wait for a few months before we get the keys, it is a great load off our shoulders especially when we have been spending so much time hunting for a suitable apartment. The search has been a tiring one, albeit interesting.

Now, I just hope that things will go smoothly and nothing crops up along the way.

Dear Lord

I pray. I give thanks for the people that I have met for they gave me food for thought. I also like to give thanks for the apartment that we have found. I pray that we would be able to get the apartment as planned without too many hiccups along the way as the valuation report is not out yet. We have signed the contract and I pray that this is a sign that we are on the way to set up our home. I pray sincerely for your grace and blessings.

Could that be our home?

Today, we covered a total of seven units in one viewing. It was a hot and tiring day. We went to several blocks of flats and viewed the available units. Out of the seven, only one took my breath away. It was just right. The shape of the unit, the size and the positioning of the the various parts of the house. Everything was just so in place. And it has been so nicely decorated that we do not need to do much of renovation work.

There is an elevated rest and relax area, the bathrooms are big enough to accommodate a standing shower, the kitchen is just right for two persons to get busy preparing a lovers' dinner. The living area is just right to accommodate an L-shaped sofa and our TV.

The dining area is just nice.

The surrounding area is quiet and is near to amenities. It is just so perfect.

Now, we will just have to wait for the valuation report to be completed and we can start negotiating the price.

Dear Lord

Please give me a sign. Will that be our dream home? A home where both of us can feel comfortable? A home where we can truly call our own?

Alien from another planet

Yesterday was a fun day. Many things took place. Yet, I have to blog this because it really struck me. Aunt Alice asked when I was going to have the customary. I was rather taken aback because I had not expected it from her. Since she already knew that I am married legally, I thought that would be it. Somehow, they were all hoping to hear the news that I would be having my customary soon. Why is it so?

Aunt Alice said that I am not getting any younger and should not wait. She also said that she was disappointed that she did not hear the news of the customary and heard the news of the ROM instead. It is funny and interesting to observe the kind of enthusiasm and disappointment in her voice.

Well, perhaps her experience was like that. They got married younger and had more children earlier.

But for me ( I cannot really speak for my generation though), customary can wait till the cows come home. I am of the belief that as along as a couple is happy together, such rituals are secondary.

Yet, what really touched me was that Aunt Alice was concerned enough to ask. She has always been the nice person I have ever known since young. I feel comfortable around her. She is patient and is a capable homemaker.

From my point of view, it is interesting to see the fascination that they have about the customary. And because the decision lies with me, I have the liberty to play along and see how they react. Heeheee......anyway, the best thing for me is not to have the customary after all. Haha......
